E-invoicing 2027 without drama
The rule that stops invoicing software from quietly altering records. What matters, and how to check whether yours is ready.
In one sentence
The Spanish "VeriFactu" rules require invoicing software to produce records that cannot be altered, are numbered and chained together, with a traceability code. In plain terms: your software can no longer let anyone delete or change an issued invoice without leaving a mark.
Who it affects
Businesses and self-employed people who issue invoices with software. It does not cover paper invoicing or excluded operations, but in practice almost any shop using a till or invoicing program is affected.
What your software must do
- Record every invoice with its number and series, with no gaps or duplicates.
- Chain each record to the previous one, so none can be removed from the middle.
- A hash of the record and a QR code carrying the invoice details.
- A signed declaration from the supplier confirming the software complies.
What to ask your supplier
Do not ask "is it compliant?" because everyone will say yes. Ask: can you give me the declaration in writing? can I see a record with its QR and hash? what happens to my 2026 invoices?
What to do if your software is not ready
Two routes: update before the date, or change software. If you have been running one for years that no longer gets updates, now is the time to look at alternatives: changing in a hurry always costs more.
